Rosslyn Chapel, located just outside Edinburgh, is a stunning 15th-century chapel renowned for its intricate stone carvings, mysterious symbolism, and connections to legends such as the Knights Templar and the Holy Grail. Built in 1446 by Sir William St Clair, the chapel's interior is adorned with elaborate carvings depicting biblical stories, pagan symbols, and enigmatic figures that have intrigued historians and visitors for centuries.
One of the most famous features of Rosslyn Chapel is the Apprentice Pillar — an exquisitely carved column with a fascinating legend attached to it. According to the story, a master mason left his apprentice to complete the pillar while he traveled abroad. Upon his return, he was so overwhelmed by the apprentice's craftsmanship that, in a fit of jealousy, he killed him. This tale adds to the chapel's aura of mystery.
Rosslyn Chapel gained worldwide fame after being featured in the film adaptation of Dan Brown's novel The Da Vinci Code, which speculated about its links to hidden treasures and secret societies. While these theories remain speculative, they have only heightened the chapel's appeal.
