Plymouth is perhaps one of the best-known maritime cities in the world.
Cruise the River Tamar, enjoying panoramic views of Cornwall. This busy waterway is both picturesque and practical.
Journey to the impressive Mount Edgcumbe Estate, home to the Earls of Mount Edgcumbe for 400 years. This grand, stately home has been beautifully restored and is considered one of the finest estates in Cornwall. Enjoy a guided tour of the house and discover how the design of this building, which dates to 1547, was revolutionary for its time. Admire the many notable works of art that adorn the walls, including three large 16th-century tapestries, and an array of fantastic artifacts.
Discover how the American servicemen stationed at Mount Edgcumbe during World War II changed the landscape and history of this beautiful place forever. They sailed out through Plymouth Sound on their way to Omaha Beach for the D-Day Landings.
Step outside to discover that the gardens are equally impressive. Set on the stunning Rame Peninsula — Cornwall's forgotten corner — the gardens offer sweeping views across the River Tamar and include England's first black bee reserve, established to protect the dwindling black bee population.
Explore the gardens on your own; then, return to Plymouth via the ferry across the Tamar and transfer back to the pier.
Please note: Tour requires walking for approximately two hours. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, cobblestones, inclines, gravel and steps.
