Departing from Stornoway, you will travel south along the scenic roads to the Isle of Harris and the port town of Tarbert where you will arrive at Isle of Harris Distillery. Known worldwide for its award-winning gin, the distillery has recently released its much-anticipated single malt whisky, The Hearach. Upon arrival, you will be met by your host and take part in an in-depth, visual, sensory experience that explores the various stages of making The Hearach—the first legal whisky ever produced on the island—including an initial tasting of the New Make Spirit.
You will then continue with a guided tasting of The Hearach whisky, released in September 2023. During this time, your host will share the distillery’s short but significant history, its impact on the local community and economy, and its purpose. Following the tasting, you will visit the production room where the spirit is distilled, with time to ask questions.
The experience concludes in the blending hall, where you will learn about casks and the finishing process. You will also have an opportunity to look into the bottling hall to see the team filling whisky bottles.
Compliment your visit to the distillery by exploring Tarbert afterwards, where you will find the iconic Harris Tweed shop filled with hand-woven garments and accessories, as well as the fragrant Essence of Harris shop offering island-produced candles and home fragrances.
Return to Stornoway along the same scenic route, where you will be sure to enjoy the mountainous views as you travel back to the northern isle.
