Explore the past and present of Tromso and discover why Tromso is considered the Gateway to the Arctic.
Enjoy a scenic drive to the Polar Museum, located in an old 19th century wharf house. The museum celebrates the many exploits of explorers, hunters and researchers who used Tromso as "The Gateway to the Arctic" between 1850 and 1930. Discover the stories behind great Norwegian Polar Explorers like Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen; the latter being not only the first man to reach the South Pole, but also the first man to reach both the North and South Poles. The exhibits include photographs, films, vintage equipment and artifacts, providing insight into life of the Arctic both past and present.
Continue your journey to Tromsø’s Maritime School where you will have a view of the iconic Arctic Cathedral. The Cathedral's 114-foot high entrance and pronounced cross makes this landmark the city's most recognizable feature, along with it’s vibrant-colored stained-glass window which covers the entire east wall and is one of the largest in Europe.
Arriving at the Tromsø Cable Car station you will ascend to the top of Mount Storsteinen. At 1380 feet above the sea level, the panoramic views to of Tromso’s landscape nestled amid islands and sea is breathtaking.
Tour ends with a drop off at Tromso Airport.
