Your adventure begins at the pier, where you’ll board a motor coach for a 30-minute drive northeast to the Tierra Mayor Valley. Just before reaching the Alvear Mountain Range, you’ll arrive at Nunatak, a welcoming mountain refuge cabin. After a brief stop outside the cabin to prepare for your trek, you’ll set off on foot into the pristine Patagonian wilderness.
The hike takes you through a dense forest of lengas, the native beech trees of the region, which provide a habitat for a wide variety of bird species. As you continue, the trail opens to spectacular views of the Alvear Mountains and the Five Cascadas waterfalls. Along the way, you’ll also learn about the fascinating work of beavers and how they build their dams in this environment.
After approximately two hours of trekking, you’ll return to the mountain refuge cabin. Here, you’ll enjoy a well-earned break with a snack and your choice of tea, coffee, or mate—the traditional Argentine drink.
Finally, you’ll reboard your motor coach for the 30-minute journey back to the pier, with lasting memories of the valley’s natural beauty and wildlife.
