Eskifjordur, Iceland

PRONOUNCED: ESS-KEE-FIOR-THUR

Eskifjörður is a small town, deep in a fjord on Iceland's East coast. Founded as a trading center in the late 18th century, it was also viewed as a good location for reaching the herring fisheries on this side of the country. Fishing and fish processing are still its main economies. The village boasts colorful houses and buildings and is a charming place to visit for a stroll.

Surrounded by natural beauty, just across the fjord you will find the Hólmanes Nature Reserve—an incredible location that offers splendid views, birdlife, and even wildflowers in the springtime.
