The wonders of Tokyo are yours to discover on this full day of sightseeing. By motorcoach, travel to the city center passing famous landmarks en route.
Visit the famous and beautiful Meiji Jingu Shrine — a tribute to the Emperor Meiji (late 1800s), who ushered in the Meiji Restoration. This change in government ended the Tokugawa Shogunate and opened Japan to the outside. Enter the shrine through twin 40-foot-tall Torii gates that are among the largest in Japan.
Lunch is served at a deluxe local restaurant or hotel.
In ancient times, Asakusa was a notorious entertainment district, but now it is the location of the beautiful Senso-ji or Kannon Temple. A golden image of the Buddhist goddess, Kannon, is enshrined here. Legend claims the statue was miraculously fished from the river in AD 628.
Head to the Imperial Palace Plaza in central Tokyo — the park surrounding the home of Japan's Emperor. Take photos of the plaza, which is home to the Fushimi-yagura watchtower, ruins from the Edo Period, and the famous Nijubashi Bridge.
Please note:
Tour requires a walk of 10 to 15 minutes from the bus parking area to the Imperial Palace Plaza; the palace is not visible from the plaza. Participants cannot stay on the coach at Asakusa. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring local currency or credit cards, as most vendors do not accept US dollars. Tour order may vary.
