Departing the pier, begin your day with a brief panoramic drive through the city of Townsville. Pause for photos at Mount Stuart and pass Castle Hill's colonial-style buildings on your way out into the countryside.
Your arrival at Billabong Sanctuary marks the beginning of the fun. This 27-acre reserve of natural Queensland tropical bush is home to a wide variety of native mammals, birds and reptiles, with which you will have the opportunity to spend time today. A park ranger meets you at the entrance for a guided tour and introduction to the many native animals living in the park. You may wish to have your picture taken with a cuddly koala or hold a wombat (at your own expense).
If you're feeling particularly brave, you will have the opportunity to handle a snake or crocodile as well.
Following your walk, you'll have free time to stroll at your own pace and mingle with the macropods (that's kangaroos and wallabies to most of us). Take part in a handling or feeding show or simply relax by the pool before rejoining the coach for the return transfer to the ship.
Please note: Terrain includes uneven surfaces, gravel and dirt. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Some areas may not offer wheelchair access. Tour does not operate on holidays. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
