Suspended between the culture of Europe and the exotic lure of Africa, Ceuta is packed with a personality all its own.
Board a motorcoach for a panoramic drive past the Royal Walls. Continue to the Embarek Mosque for a photo opportunity before heading out to the Isabel II Viewpoint, which affords the best views over Mount Hacho, Ceuta City, the Strait of Gibraltar, and the Desar Mountains. View the border crossing with Morocco and see if you can pick out the face of a sleepy lady etched into the mountainside. Benitez Beach Road leads you past the industrial area, further into Spanish Morocco.
In the center of Ceuta, stop at the Plaza de Africa to view the exterior of the Nuestra Señora de Africa Church. In the distance, you'll catch a view of the Castillo Desnarigado. This tiny fortress guarded the coast from the Barbary pirates and today features one of the few strands of beach in Spanish Morocco. Continue to the San Antonio Hermitage — a typically Spanish monastic chapel where young girls pray for a husband.
Watch for the Mediterranean Park designed by world-famous architect Cesar Manrique, who hailed from the Canary Islands. It boasts features similar to the Lago Martianez in Tenerife. This park features saltwater lakes, solariums, and gardens, all set against a backdrop of a castle inspired by the Ceuta Walls.
