Saint-Omer, center of 18th-century Bourgeois architecture, Flemish influence and imposing medieval history, beckons you to explore today. This is a charming city best discovered on foot, as street after street unfurls before you, weaving an age-old tapestry of secular and monastic treasures. Enjoy a guided tour of the city, beginning at Notre Dame Cathedral. This and other brilliantly-preserved buildings tell the story of Saint-Omer -- marketplaces, large houses, the public garden and others.
Next, a panoramic drive brings you to Eperlecques, known as the home of the immense, and immensely important, Eperlecques Bunker. The largest bunker in the north of France, Eperlecques witnessed a very dark period from 1939-1945 -- the years of World War II. Open to the public since 1973, this site impresses with its size and the technical prowess it represents. It was the first launch pad for Nazi rockets type V1 and V2. World War II buffs will recognize the importance of this landmark site. Today, visitors pass through a series of interpretive displays that clearly explain the purpose and life of the bunker and its role in the war; and don't miss the crater created by the Tallboy bomb.
Return to the pier in Dunkirk, reflecting on the images of the day.
