Fuerteventura is the Canary Islands' second-largest land mass, consisting of widened mountain ranges and volcanic cones divided by badlands of volcanic ash.
Leave Puerto del Rosario for a scenic drive to an aloe vera plantation. Aloe vera is a truly amazing plant that heals all sorts of conditions, from psoriasis and other skin complaints to aching joints. See a cross-section of the plant literally oozing goodness and try out the various gels and an aloe vera beverage.
Visit a traditional windmill to see how it works and how gofio, a staple of the local diet, is ground here. Gofio is used in soups, baking, and even desserts.
In the beautiful village of Pájara, view the Aztec-themed church door. Anthropologists have many interesting theories as to how an Aztec design made it to the door of a place of worship in the Canary Islands. What's your take?
You're surrounded by tall mountains in the Betancuria Valley. Visit the Casa Santa Maria Museum in Betancuria village for an audiovisual introduction to the flora and fauna of Fuerteventura and its seasons on land and in the sea. The array of colors and diverse scenery is stunning.
Enjoy a delicious, typical Canary-style lunch.
Head toward the spectacular sand dunes of Corralejo Nature Park. Feel free to walk on the dunes and take photos of the marvelous views of Lanzarote and the island of Los Lobos.
The short drive back to the ship leaves time for you to sit back, relax and reflect on your insights into life on Fuerteventura past and present.
