Nicknamed Siglo, Siglufjörður sits beneath towering mountains at the heart of a narrow fjord. It is one of Iceland's northernmost towns — a historical fishing town whose fame and fortune have always been linked to the ebb and flow of the fishing industry.
In the early 20th century, what was once a tiny shark-fishing village became one of Iceland's largest towns, emerging as the undisputed capital of herring fishing in the Atlantic. Although the herring have long since disappeared, the town still bears the distinct imprint of its heyday.
Enjoy a guided kayak paddle along the coastline, exploring monuments from the herring era and taking in beautiful views of the town.
