Explore the small but fascinating island of St Helena. Today's tour takes you from rugged coastlines through to lush green countryside with exciting points of history around every corner. Follow the path taken by Emperor Napoleon when he first stepped ashore in 1815. You'll leave the quayside to travel by coach through the island's capital. Stop at Two Gun Saddle for views of Jamestown, the Heart Shaped Waterfall, and High Knoll Fort.
Continuing, you will arrive at the entrance of Napoleon's tomb. This location was chosen by the French emperor for its scenic tranquillity. A 0.5km walk brings you to the gravesite. Visit Longwood House, one of the most iconic Napoleonic museums in the world.
You'll stop to snap some photos at Stitches Ridge overlooking Sandy Bay, which offers stunning geographical landscapes and views of prominent volcanic dikes.
Plantation House is the Governor's official residence. In the grounds, you may meet Jonathan -- possibly the world's oldest living tortoise.
Your final stop is at Ladder Hill. Built into the cliff face here is a staircase known as Jacob's Ladder, comprised of 699 steps. It connects Jamestown to Ladder Hill Fort and was used to haul manure and provisions up the hill. From here you'll have a clear view of your ship anchored in James Bay.
Please Note: Tour requires moderate walking with a slight incline to and from Napoleon's tomb. Participants can remain on the transport for this stop, although this is not recommended. There is some walking on an uneven terrain. The transportation is not wheelchair accessible. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. The coach ride unguided; a local guide awaits you at each stop to provide information and answer questions. The level of guide experience varies on St Helena due to the remoteness of its location. Limited tourism infrastructure is part of the charm here, and you are trading breadth of experience for authentic interaction. Please bring your spirit of adventure and bear with any language difficulties your guide may encounter and with any operational surprises that may crop up.
