The Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum, led by an experienced tour guide, focuses on the pioneers of Alaska aviation. See the museum's restored aircraft and discover the bush-pilot roots of modern-day Alaska Airlines. With five hangars of exhibits, the museum has more than twenty vintage, historic aircraft on display, including a 1928 Stearman biplane, a 1943 PBY-5A Catalina, a Grumman Widgeon, a 1953 Douglas DC-6, an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737, a McDonnell Douglas/Boeing F-15, and a 1931 Fairchild Pilgrim — the only one in the world. Learn about the Battle of ATTU, the women of World War II, and the Black Wolf Squadron exhibit covering the first flight from New York to Nome. There are also interactive displays and a wind tunnel on loan from the Children's Museum.
Watch the float plane action on Lake Hood — the busiest seaplane base in the world. Learn how the pilots communicate with the airport control tower as they approach a water landing.
