Exciting, exhilarating, memorable -- welcome to Expedition Experiences by Seabourn. Zodiac, kayaking or hiking activities enable you to experience the wonders of nature up close; in-depth cultural, ethnographic and archaeological discoveries connect you to the human and natural history of Seabourn's world. Each Expedition is expertly planned, professionally operated, and escorted by skilled expedition staff.
Join the Expedition by Seabourn Expedition Team for a spectacular hike to Kunk Lake -- a favorite of many locals and one of Wrangell's best-kept secrets.
A 20-minute scenic jet-boat ride brings you to Etolin Island and the Kunk Lake trailhead. From here, follow your guide through the Tongass National Forest. You'll feel dwarfed by the ancient, old-growth spruce, hemlock and cedar trees. As you walk, look into the clear water of the cascading stream to see if you can spot pink and chum salmon returning to spawn
Kunk Lake nestles in a scenic valley, surrounded by the stunning peaks of the Three Sisters. Photography, bird-watching and wildlife viewing opportunities are likely to present themselves.
Feel free to take a swim in the lake, if you wish. A light lunch is provided.
Please note: Tour requires walking about 2.6 miles (4.2 km) roundtrip. Terrain is moderately difficult with a boardwalk, improved gravel trail sections, inclines and unimproved sections. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing if you wish to swim; bring a towel, biodegradable sunscreen, and a cover-up for further protection from the sun. There are no changing facilities at the lake. The water entrance is primitive. Dress warmly in layers with a beanie or hat. Bring a backpack to stow any layers you shed. Wear sunglasses. Bring insect repellent and binoculars. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Tour duration may vary depending on group ability. Please discuss any dietary requirements at the time of booking. A primitive outhouse restroom is available near the shelter. Trekking poles are provided. A maximum of 14 guests ensures a quality hiking and interpretive experience.
