Iceland is one of the best locations in the world to enjoy whale watching. The abundance of marine life in the waters around Akureyri provides ideal feeding grounds, attracting more than twenty species of whales, dolphins and porpoises.

The whale watching boat is only a short walk from the pier in Akureyri. The friendly crew welcome you on board and you set off on the pristine waters of Eyjafjordur Fjord. Tall, snow-capped mountains line the seemingly endless fjord. Your exciting search for the ocean's gentle giants is both thrilling and beautiful.

The tour enjoys a 95% success rate for spotting whales. Many species have been sighted here, including blue-fin, humpback, minke and sei whales. The best period for whale watching in Iceland is the late spring to early fall months (May through September). Guests who wish to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so, but must make their own way back to the ship.

Please note: The boat is not exclusive to Seabourn guests. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. It is essential that you wear warm, layered clothing in order to fully enjoy and participate in this excursion. Outer layer should be waterproof and windproof. Bring gloves, a warm hat and a scarf. Wear sturdy, non-skid walking shoes. Bring sunglasses and binoculars. Tour requires some walking from the pier to where the boat is docked (10-15 minutes from the ship) on paved and even ground. There are steps on board the boat to reach the viewing platforms and to access the cabin area downstairs.
