Situated approximately halfway between Orkney and Shetland, Fair Isle is known for the intricate and distinctive knitting patterns which originated here. It is also home to over 200 flowering plants and has abundant wildlife with over 345 species of birds that have been recorded on Fair Isle – more than anywhere else in Britain. During your visit you will be welcomed by islanders. You will have the opportunity to visit the museum and have tea and home-baking with the islanders in the community hall.
Please note: Wherever Included Experience tours are offered, guests are allowed to participate in only one included experience per call unless otherwise specified in the tour description. The Expedition Team will advise your booked included experience departure time onboard. A visit to Fair Isle involves a zodiac or tender ride to the beach or pier and an approximately 1 ½ mile walk to reach the community hall. Warm, waterproof clothing and sturdy footwear are recommended. The Fair Isle Bird Observatory on the island was destroyed by fire in 2019 and is going to be rebuilt. At present plans are being made and they hope to start rebuilding in the spring of 2022. The reopening is yet to be confirmed.
