The Stone & Man cultural project, brainchild of Aka Høegh, was born in the summer of 1993. Aka Høeghis a well-known artist who grew up in Qaqortoq. She invited 18 Nordic artists to transform hard granite into works of art. Today, these stand proudly in the city of Qaqortoq, creating an Art Walk for the ages. The collection now includes 31 works dotted about town.
Set off on foot with your guide for a stroll among the Stone & Man sculptures. Your guide will interpret the works and offer details of their meaning and their makers.
Visit the Museum of Qaqortoq before you return to the ship.
Please note: The visit to the museum is unguided. Bring a mosquito net and insect repellent. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Dress warmly in layers with a wind- and waterproof outer layer; bring gloves, a scarf and a warm hat. There are no restrooms available on tour. The level of guide experience varies in Qaqortoq due the remoteness of its location. Limited tourism infrastructure is part of the charm here, and you are trading breadth of experience for authentic interaction. Please bring your spirit of adventure and bear with any language difficulties your guide may encounter and with any operational surprises that may crop up. All of the sights you'll see on this tour are accessible on foot from the tender pier, but your guide offers perspectives that you may not be aware of if you explore on your own.
