Visit a local market in Akita, a vibrant indoor space filled with stalls offering everything from fresh fish to fruit and pastries. Sample some local delicacies either on the go or while sitting down to take in the lively atmosphere.
Next, you will visit the Akita City Folk Performing Arts Heritage Center -- a treasure trove of Akita’s rich folklore and traditional performing arts. Immerse yourself in Akita’s culture as you marvel at the impressive lanterns used in the UNESCO-recognized Kanto Festival and gain insight into the traditions passed down through generations.
Finally, walk through Senshu Park and experience a traditional Japanese tea party. While savoring Japanese tea, delight in the characteristic, graceful movements and expressive gestures of an Akita Maiko Performance.
Please note:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. The Maiko performance is not wheelchair accessible. Tour sequence may vary. Bring local currency for purchases, as few stores accept credit cards. You must remove your shoes at one or more location(s). Traffic can be unpredictable; your patience is greatly appreciated if a delay extends the tour duration.
