Embark on a cultural and culinary journey through Akita, beginning with a visit to a renowned local sake brewery. Discover the meticulous process behind the region’s famous sake production and sample its premium offerings.
Afterward, enjoy a delicious lunch at a local venue, where you can indulge in traditional Japanese cuisine.
Next, head to a local brewing facility, where you’ll learn about the traditional tools used in the brewing process, including the koji room, fermentation warehouses, and wooden barrels while discovering how miso and soy sauce are made. You’ll also have the chance to taste tamari (a natural extract from miso) or soy sauce paired with rice crackers. Toast your own rice crackers to enjoy on the spot.
At the Yuzawa City Kawatsura Lacquerware Traditional Crafts Center, learn about some intricate lacquer techniques passed down through generations.
Please note:
The sake brewery is a working area; capacity is limited, and the group may be split at times. Individuals who have eaten natto on the day of the brewery visit are not allowed to participate, as the bacteria in natto can affect the brewing process. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. The brewery is not wheelchair accessible. Tour sequence may vary. Bring local currency for purchases, as few stores accept credit cards. You must remove your shoes at one or more location(s). Traffic can be unpredictable; your patience is greatly appreciated if a delay extends the tour duration.
