Discover the culture and history of the provincial capital of North Sulawesi on this city tour.

Monado is located in the Bay of Monado and is surrounded by a mountainous area. The name Monado comes from ‘manadou’ or ‘wanazou’ meaning ‘on the far coast’ or ‘in the distance. It originally referred to the further of the 2 islands, which can be seen from the mainland.

A traditional war dance of Minahasa will welcome you as you board your bus for your drive into the heart of Chinatown, in the city of Monado. Visit the Ban Hin Kiong Temple, one of the oldest Chinese temples built during the Qing Dynasty. This red temple is elegant and attractive and covered with ornaments on every side. Head towards the centrum or city centre point and visit an old church, built by a Dutch East Indies company in the 19th century.

Take in the scenic views as you enjoy a traditional Indonesian lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, you’ll have a shopping stop at Merciful Buildings to purchase souvenirs or buy traditional cookies and snacks.

En route back to your ship, a visit will be made to the Monument of Christ Blessing that was inaugurated in 2007 and is considered one of highest monuments in Asia and 4th tallest statue of Christ in the world.

Notes: There is approximately 1 hour of walking on this tour over mainly paved and gravel ground. The drive to Monado is approximately 1½ hours each way. Comfortable, light clothing is recommended and modest dress is required inside the temple.
