Historic City of Ayutthaya
"Founded c. 1350, Ayutthaya became the second Siamese capital after Sukhothai. It was destroyed by the Burmese in the 18th century. Its remains, characterized by the prang (reliquary towers) and gigantic monasteries, give an idea of its past splendour."Day 1 (L/D)
From Laem Chabang Port, enjoy a 3-hour drive to the historical city of Ayutthaya, the second capital of Siamese Kingdom. It was founded in 1350 and flourished from the 14th to 18th centuries.
Before arriving in Ayutthaya, a stop will be made to visit the beautiful Bang Pa-In Summer Palace, formerly a popular summer retreat for Thai Kings. Bang Pa-In has a captivating collection of marvelous pavilions in a variety of Thai, Chinese, Italian and Victorian architectural styles encircled by a lovely garden and lake.
Following lunch, continue to Ayutthaya Historical Park. Visit Wat Mahathat, once the center of Buddhism in the Ayutthaya Kingdom. Then visit Wat Phra Si Sanphet, the most important temple within the Royal Palace compound, the equivalent of the Emerald Buddha Temple in Bangkok’s Royal Grand Palace. Conclude your historical tour with a visit to Wat Chaiwattanaram with its large prang and pagodas, most of which are in excellent condition.
After a full day sightseeing, board your coach for a 90-minute drive to your hotel in Bangkok to check in and freshen up before your evening activity. Enjoy a traditional Thai dinner at a local restaurant, accompanied by classical Thai dance performance.
Overnight at Shangri-La Bangkok, or similar.
Day 2 (B/L)
After breakfast at the hotel, board a Tuk Tuk, an open local motor tricycle, for a transfer to the Grand Palace. Upon arrival, take a 90-minute guided tour through the Royal Palace Grounds and Grand Palace. The sacred image of the Buddha sits high atop a golden throne in the Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha). Carved in the 15th century from a single piece of jade, the Buddha guards the sovereignty of the Kingdom and the religious beliefs of the people.
Afterwards, walk to a private pier and embark on a private boat for a cruise on the Chao Phraya River. Along the way, observe local resident’s living and working along the water, and view the spectacular Wat Arun, or "Temple of Dawn", one of Bangkok’s most recognized landmarks.
Following your cruise, enjoy lunch at the hotel before your 2.5- hour return journey to Laem Chabang.
