Experience Hiroshima on a narrated half-day drive through the city and discover the city's history. You will visit Peace Memorial Park and tour the Peace Memorial Museum. See exhibits, videos and items that survived the bombing. Learn about the scope of destruction and extent of the bombing zone and note the haunting images of shadows etched into buildings and sidewalks.
View the Atomic Bomb Dome whose skeletal frame stands as a mute symbol of destruction.
See the Children's Peace Monument, inspired by a girl who died of leukemia as a result of the atomic blast. She folded paper cranes, a symbol of long life, in the hope that she would get better. The park now receives nearly 10 million paper cranes annually in the name of world peace.
You'll also explore the Shukkeien Gardens, built in 1620 and modeled after a landscape in Hangzhou, China. The name means "shrunken scenery gardens" -- highly appropriate for this miniature landscape of forests, valleys and mountains. Stroll pathways and over bridges to a pond with an oasis of teahouses and waterfalls. Relax on your ride back to the ship.
Please Note: Visiting Shukkeien Garden requires negotiating steps and uneven surfaces. Not recommended for passengers with limited mobility. Please be advised that the Museum exhibits sensitive material including some graphic images and displays on the atrocities of war, and that photography is not permitted. There is up to 30 minutes of walking at the Peace Memorial Park. Comfortable non-slip shoes and bottled water are recommended. We suggest you carry local currency for any purchases you wish to make. Tour order may vary.
