Make the most of your time ashore in this full day tour, showing you the most important sights of Hiroshima.Reputed to be the home of the gods, Miyajima (Shrine Island) will be your first destination on this full day extravaganza. Sailing across Hiroshima bay, you’ll be able to see the Itsukushima Shrine, which lends its name to the island. On arrival you will have approximately two hours to enjoy the delights of this sacred place. Browse for souvenirs along the main arcade, where traditional wood turned items are an island specialty as you make your way towards the Itsukushima Shrine. The vermillion lacquered shrine contrasts brightly with the dark water that surrounds it, and provides you with excellent views of the giant Tori Gate (a gate between the spirit and human world).
You’ll head back to Hiroshima in time for luncheon at the local restaurant, where you can relax and refuel before your afternoon of exploration begins.
The Atomic Bomb Dome is the instantly recognizable symbol of peace. It’s here at the Peace Memorial Park, dedicated to the victims of the first Atomic bomb attack, that you will explore the moving and sometimes harrowing museum. The most emotive tribute here is the Children’s Peace Monument, where thousands of colorful cranes belie the soulful tale behind them.Exploring the gods, shrines and soulful reminders of the past. You’ll also explore the Shukkeien Gardens, built in 1620 and modeled after a landscape in Hangzhou, China. The name means "shrunken scenery gardens"—highly appropriate for this miniature landscape of forests, valleys and mountains. Stroll pathways and over bridges to a pond with an oasis of teahouses and waterfalls. This tour will deliver the best that Hiroshima has to offer.
Please note:
Please be advised that the Museum exhibits sensitive material including some graphic images and displays on the atrocities of war, and that photography is not permitted. There is approximately two hours of walking on this tour. Comfortable non-slip shoes and bottled water are recommended. Only Japanese Yen will be accepted by local vendors. The Atomic Bomb Dome may be covered due to maintenance. Visiting Shukkeien Garden requires negotiating steps and uneven surfaces. Not recommended for guests with limited mobility. Tour order may vary.
