This morning, visit the bustling and iconic seafood market – Hakodate Morning Market – comprised of roughly 280 stores and located near the JR Hakodate Station. Indulge in delectable dishes like sushi, sashimi, grilled seafood and more, all while immersing yourself in the vibrant and lively atmosphere of this culinary hub.
Next, visit the Goryokaku Tower for a view of the graceful Goryokaku pentagonal structure. This was built in 1864 for the defense of Hokkaido against would-be invaders. The tower offers breathtaking panoramic views perfect for taking photos and admiring the historical beauty of the park and its surroundings. You can also admire the star shaped fortress surrounding the tower – comprised of a star shaped moat and cherry blossoms.
Walk to the Hakodate Bugyosho, or Magistrate's Office, opened in 2010 and located in Goryokaku Park. It was rebuilt as a faithful copy of the original building, using traditional methods. It now serves as a museum. Remove your shoes, in keeping with Japanese custom, and step inside the building to view the historical exhibits.
Return to the ship after your tour.
