Drive just one hour north from Hakodate to the Onuma area and you’ll be met with a breathtaking region known for its stunning landscapes and outdoor activities. This area is famous for its lakes, as well as for Onuma Quasi-National Park – some of which you’ll see today.
Onuma is known for its three lakes – Lake Onuma, Lake Konuma and Lake Junsai. Lake Onuma was formed when Mt Komagatake erupted and the lava flow from the mountain dammed the river, creating the lake. It is a picturesque natural gem renowned for its tranquil lakes, lush forests and volcanic landscapes. Here you’ll enjoy a 30-minute boat ride on the lake, where you can escape from the hustle and bustle and connect with nature on the water.
Continue to Onuma Quasi-National Park. This is the birthplace of Hokkaido's resort industry, and the ideal place to connect with the island's natural environment. There are multiple small islands on Lake Onuma. You will take a one-hour hike along a road that allows you to walk from island to island by crossing the bridges yourself. Enjoy the island hopping and the natural beauty of the park.
You will stop briefly at a winery and taste some local wine before you return to the ship.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes.
