This is a special evening out, introducing the cultural charms of Niigata over a delicious dinner with a performance by the Furumachi Geigi -- the geisha of Niigata.
Transfer from the ship to a traditional dinner venue, where you will sit down to a Japanese dinner made with abundant seasonal ingredients.
Niigata Geigi culture originated in the early Edo Period when Niigata flourished as a trade port and became a lively port town attracting merchants and travelers. Geigi culture blossomed in this cosmopolitan setting. Playing a key role in enlivening banquets, Geigi delighted guests with their beautiful attire, graceful movements, and performing arts, which included singing, dancing, and playing music, creating a truly special atmosphere.
Although the Geigi tradition temporarily declined after World War II, Niigata’s Geigi culture has been preserved and is now considered an important cultural asset of the region.
While savoring your dinner, relax and enjoy a graceful and vibrant performance by the Geigi. Allow yourself to be charmed by this element of Japanese culture.
