The best way to go sightseeing in Kuala Lumpur on a day trip to see the best bits without exhausting yourself is via this excursion where you will gather your energetic spirit to speed around all the must-see places and main highlights of KL city. Following a 90-minute drive to Kuala Lumpur, you’ll pause to stretch your legs and photo stop outside the regal Istana Negara, the official residence of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) of Malaysia. The Malaysian version equivalent to Buckingham Palace, the King's Palace (Istana Negara) attracts thousands of visitors with its golden domes and Islamic-style architecture. For safety purposes, the members of the Royal Malay Regiment are station at the main entrance flanked by two guard posts on each side of the arch with members of the cavalry in full dress uniform.
Next photo stop is the Independence Square, a historical place where the Union Flag was lowered and the Malayan flag was raised for the very first time at the struck of midnight of 31st August 1957. Within the vicinity, you will continue to visit the Central Market, built in 1928 and was a simple wet market but in the early 1980s, the place was revamped into a handicraft’s outlet and has been classified as a Heritage Site by the National Heritage Department. Similar to London’s Covent Garden or San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf. Within short walk, you will be at the Chinatown, made up of beautiful temples, sprawling flea markets, and quirky art galleries. Along the way, you will make a stop at Sze Ya Temple, built in 1864 and is hailed as the oldest Taoist temple in Kuala Lumpur. The temple functions as a cultural center for the city’s Chinese community and is usually filled with devotees during significant occasions such as Chinese New Year.
After lunch, you will make a quick photo stop at the magnificent PETRONAS Twin Tower. The towers were once the tallest buildings in the world. Now the world’s tallest twin structures, the 88-storey buildings were designed with both towers joined at the 41st and 42nd floors (175m above street level) by a 58 meter-long, double-decker Sky Bridge.
The day would not be complete without stopping for a visit at the Royal Selangor, an internationally renowned pewter manufacturer. When Yong Koon, a young Chinese craftsman, came to Kuala Lumpur in 1885, he started to make household items out of pewter using a high level of craftsmanship and innovative design. The company offers over a thousand tableware and gift items, from tankards and tea sets, to photo frames, desk accessories and wine accessories. Distributed worldwide from its base in Kuala Lumpur, the company has more than 40 shops worldwide including places like Harrods and John Lewis in United Kingdom, David Jones and Myer in Australia, Wako and Mitsukoshi in Japan.
