Did you know Okinawa is the birthplace of Karate? Karate is a one of pillars of Okinawan culture which has been passed down as a "traditional Okinawan Karatedo/Ancient Martial Art" from generation to generation. It cultivates a tough body and indomitable spirit but at the same time builds a character that promotes peace and respect.
When a Ryukyu King came into power in 1477, training of martial arts was forbidden. However, Okinawan people created their own style of martial arts calls "te" and kept it as a secret. Through trade with neighboring China, Okinawan people were inspired to combine Chinese material arts with "te" to become "to-tei" which is the Ryukyu Karate we know today.
Upon arrival at the Okinawa Karate Kaikan, change into your Karate uniform or "Karategi" and head to the mat where you will see a demonstration and learn the history of this noble art form. After the demonstration, it’s you turn to get in on the action and learn a few basic Karate techniques from the Master.
After mastering a few basic techniques and with a greater understanding of Okinawan culture, board your coach and return to the pier.
Please Note: Please realistically assess your physical fitness and ability prior to booking, as much of the program will require sitting on the floor as well as Karate movements. You will be required to change into a Karate uniform and remove your shoes to participate.
