Set out on a half-day journey to Katashimo Winery in Osaka. It's the oldest winery in Western Japan.
Your tour begins with a peaceful walk through the historic Taiheiji neighborhood. Here, lush vineyards climb the hillsides, and the area has a fascinating history of grape cultivation dating back around 1,300 years. Local history suggests that grapes may have reached the area along the Silk Road together with the spread of Buddhism. More than a century ago, the founders of Katashimo Winery pioneered a unique brewing style applying traditional sake, miso, and vinegar-making techniques to craft high-quality wine tailored to the Japanese palate.
An expert local guide will lead you through the estate, which is usually closed to the public. Listen to fascinating stories of grape growing and local heritage.
