Breathtaking views of Mt Fuji and a visit to a serene mountaintop shrine provide an awe-inspiring atmosphere of spiritual tranquility.
Nihondaira is one of Japan's Top 100 sightseeing spots. At an elevation of 1,000 feet, this hilly area is designated a National Nature Park. Within its boundaries, trees and fields seasonally yield a rich variety of plums, cherry blossoms, tea and mikan tangerines. From Nihondaira, take the Sky ropeway (Gondora or cable car) up to the secluded Kunozan Toshogu Shrine. The shrine houses the grave of Tokugawa Ieyasu. It is based on the Shinto style of shrine architecture and is an important cultural asset.
Continue to Miho no Matsubara, located in Shizuoka city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The view of Mt Fuji with the sea and green pines in the foreground creates a significant tourist attraction. In the past, historical Ukiyo-e (sketch) artists used this spot to compose pictures of Mt Fuji. Nowadays, this is absolutely the iconic, must-see view of the mountain.

Tour requires approximately one mile of strenuous walking. Terrain includes 200 steps, inclines and uneven surfaces at the ropeway and Kunozan Toshogu Shrine. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. The view of Mt. Fuji is subject to the weather. There may be a wait time before boarding the cable car. Tour sequence may vary. Traffic can be unpredictable; your patience is greatly appreciated if a delay extends the tour duration.
