Experience Tokyo -- an astounding city where the 21st century coexists with the spirit of ancient Japan.
A scenic, 60-minute panoramic drive from Yokohama to Japan's fascinating capital affords you a glimpse of the world's largest city.
Modern buildings, the Ginza district and other landmarks await you in the city's center. Your first photo stop in Tokyo is at the Imperial Palace Plaza. The palace occupies the original site of Edo Castle -- the seat of power for the Tokugawa Shoguns during the Edo Period (1603 - 1867). With your guide, explore the plaza's exterior walls and glimpse the spacious grounds surrounded by moats. Stop in front of the picturesque two-tier Nijubashi Bridge for a superb photo opportunity.
After lunch at the local restaurant, next on your itinerary is the Meiji Shrine. Emperor Meiji was instrumental in opening Japan to the outside world in the late 1800s, ushering in the Meiji Restoration, which ended the rule of the Tokugawa (Shogun) government. After the emperor and empress died, the Meiji Shrine was constructed to house their souls. You'll enter the shrine through 40-foot-tall Torii gates, among the largest in Japan.
Visit Sensoji Temple. Legend holds that in AD 628, two brothers fished a statue of Kannon out of the Sumida River and built a temple to enshrine it. Enter through the Nitenmon or Kaminarimon Gate, bedecked with a huge red paper lantern. View the shrine and enjoy free time to stroll down Nakamise-dori, "the Street of Inside Shops." This alley is lined with traditional vendors selling food, souvenirs and handmade crafts.
Your tour concludes with a drive back to the pier.
