Transfer to Tokyo -- a scenic, 60-minute panoramic drive from the pier. Japan's fascinating capital makes its way in the 21st century coexists while remaining deeply connected to the spirit of ancient Japan.
Modern buildings, the Ginza district and other landmarks await you in the city's center.
You will visit the Meiji Shrine. Emperor Meiji was instrumental in opening Japan to the outside world in the late 1800s, ushering in the Meiji Restoration, which ended the rule of the Tokugawa (Shogun) government. After the emperor and empress died, the Meiji Shrine was constructed to house their souls. You'll enter the shrine through 40-foot-tall Torii gates, among the largest in Japan.
Don't miss the pretty Sensoji Temple. Legend holds that, in AD 628, two brothers fished a statue of Kannon out of the Sumida River. They made the temple to enshrine the statue. Enter through the Nitenmon or Kaminarimon Gate, bedecked with a huge red paper lantern. View the shrine and enjoy free time to stroll down Nakamise-dori -- "the Street of Inside Shops." This is an alley lined with traditional vendors selling food, souvenirs and handmade crafts. You have time to purchase a snack here (at your own expense).
Your tour concludes with a transfer to Narita Airport in time for your flight.
