On this unforgettable excursion, crossing bridges becomes a mesmerizing journey as each one offers a unique perspective of the coastal area, connecting scenic islands to the mainland while treating you to stunning views of natural scenery and vibrant cityscapes.
In 2011, South Jeolla provincial government began to build bridges linking four islands (Jobaldo, Tunbeongdo, Nangdo, Jeokgeumdo) from Hwayang District, Yeosu to Goheung to encourage people to see the beauty of the islands. Construction was completed in 2020.
Along the route you can take in different views of the Dadohae Haesang National Park and the architectural beauty of the six bridges, saving transportation time between the two peninsulas.
After touring the bridges, you will have a chance to taste makgeolli on the island of Nangdo at a restaurant that is over 100 years old. Makgeolli is a milky alcoholic beverage Koreans have a soft spot for. Although similar beverages exist outside of Korea – most notably in Japan – makgeolli is a uniquely Korean drink, and the common customs associated with drinking makgeolli are an integral part of the Korean food culture. Makgeolli, also referred to as takju (meaning ‘cloudy alcohol’), is Korean fermented rice wine. It is traditionally made with three ingredients: rice, a wheat-based Korean fermentation starter called nuruk and water. Other grains such as barley, wheat and corn are commonly used as well.
