Suncheon City is quickly emerging as the ecological capital of Korea. On this walking tour, you’ll see the natural ecosystem that is Suncheon Bay – almost completely untouched and globally recognized for its ecological value.
Suncheon Bay is considered to be a treasure house for the hosting of a variety of marine, plant, and bird species. With limited exposure to pollution and to further development as a salt wetland, this area provides ample opportunities for study and research. On your guided walking tour, you’ll see its display of dense reeds, its provision of habitat to a variety bird species (local as well as migratory) and its tidal setting. The natural "S" shape of the Bay is one of Korea's best settings for sunset photography. In July 2000 the Korean South Sea Tourism Belt Development Project gave the go-ahead for a natural ecological park to be developed at Suncheon Bay. In November 2004 this park opened its doors to the public.
After touring Suncheon Bay, you’ll take the Skycube Cable Car to the Suncheon Bay National Garden. This exhilarating experience provides panoramic views of the coastal city and stunning surroundings.
Suncheon Bay National Garden was established in order to turn 1.12 square kilometers of natural habitat into a conservation area, where it houses over 505 species of trees and 113 species of flowers. Especially, the numerous groups of tulips and royal azaleas are truly a sight to see. In addition, the nearby 30,000-square-meter field of canola flowers is in full bloom in May, which creates a beautiful yellow "wave" of color and trees make a great shade of canopy for the area. You can explore the many gardens which are themed around different countries from around the world.
Please note: This tour requires an extensive amount of walking (approximately 4.5 miles [8 km]) and long periods of standing with about 20 steps and a few to negotiate to get on/off the coach. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility, and guests who utilize a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. The tour sequence may vary.
