Explore Auckland and its magnificent harborfront from the comfort of an air-conditioned motorcoach. Once New Zealand's capital and today the largest city in Polynesia, Auckland is rightly dubbed the City of Sails.
You will visit the Auckland Museum with its expansive display of Maori artifacts and culture, including a magnificent 82-foot war canoe and carved meetinghouse or marae. See the Scars of the Heart exhibition, which chronicles New Zealand's involvement in the major wars of the 20th century. There are excellent film clips from World War I and II, as well as an informative audio-visual presentation in the Volcanoes Gallery, where you can experience a simulated earthquake and volcanic eruption.
Drive through Parnell, one of Auckland's oldest districts, where restoration work has created a busy shopping area that retains the charm of a small village. Continue along Tamaki Drive to Okahu Bay and the Savage Memorial Park where you will take in panoramic views over the harbor. On this picturesque drive you will see some of Auckland's finest residential homes.
Returning to the city, you'll pass the former America's Cup yachting village before crossing the Auckland Harbour Bridge, built in 1959 to link the North Shore's suburbs to Auckland city.
Please note:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. This tour is available only to guests whose cruise does not begin or end in Auckland.
