Transfer to the helipad in nearby Paihia for a visually stunning helicopter flight that takes you to Cape Reinga region at the very top of New Zealand.
Watch for the harbors and beaches of Northland -- Whangaroa Harbour, Rangaunu Harbour, Coopers Beach, Doubtless Bay and famous Ninety-Mile Beach. Oddly, the latter is exactly 55 miles long.
Heading inland, you'll fly north and land at a private airfield only 12 miles from the Cape Reinga Lighthouse, marking the northernmost point of New Zealand.
On the ground, a comfortable air-conditioned van (or similar) meets the aircraft, and you'll have three hours of scenic touring in the Far North.
A panoramic drive brings you to the Cape Reinga Lighthouse and the turbulent waters where the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean meet. See Tapotupotu Bay and the giant sand dunes of Te Paki Stream. Sleds are available for anyone wishing to slide down the dunes. Go on, you know you want to!
A light snack is served at Tapotupotu Bay.
Back at the airfield, you'll climb back into the helicopter and begin the next leg of your flight. Remote scenery, the white silica sands of Parengarenga Harbour, and Great Exhibition Bay accompany you down the east coast.
Land at Henderson Bay for lunch at a private home. Friendly kiwis welcome you into their home for a delicious, hearty home-cooked meal and happy conversation.
Heading down the coast by helicopter, you'll view Houhora Harbour, Karikari Peninsula, Whangaroa Harbour, the Cavalli Islands and the glistening Bay of Islands before landing at Paihia.
Please note:
Minimum age is 18 years. Bring a warm jacket -- it can be windy and cool at Cape Reinga. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
