Enjoy the best of Tasmania today with a trip through the past on the Don River Railway, a visit and free time in Launceston, Tasmania’s second-largest city, and a stunning private cruise through Cataract Gorge.
The first stop is the Don River Railway; this 30 minute trip is an ideal outing for those who want to experience the pleasure of recreating the past, whilst travelling on a train featuring historic locomotives and rolling stock. This is a unique railway museum which houses the largest collection of steam locomotives in Tasmania dating from 1879 to 1951. Here you will enjoy a guided tour of the museum and take the round trip train ride to Coles Beach.
Next we visit Launceston: this is Tasmania’s second-largest city, situated at the meeting of the North and South Esk rivers, where the Tamar River begins its journey to Bass Strait. Arriving in the heart of this city, you will enjoy some sightseeing around the city taking in the architecture of the historical buildings and the gardens that lace the streets before taking some time to explore the city.
The last stop is a Cataract Gorge Cruise. The Tamar River once served the city of Launceston as a major shipping and transport ‘highway’ and remains central to the lifestyle of more than a quarter of Tasmania’s population.
