Drive by coach to Kikjubour. In the Middle Ages, Kirkjubour was the religious and cultural center of the Faroe Islands. You will see the imposing ruins of St Magnus Cathedral dominating the town. While construction of the cathedral was likely begun in the 1300s, legend has it that it was never finished. You will also see the 900 year-old longhouse.
Driving back to Torshavn, you will enjoy outstanding views of the islands of Koltur, Hestur, Sandoy and Vagar. Next, visit the National History Museum which brings to life the past of the Faroes in a millennium from the Viking Age to modern times. Learn more about the local nature, culture and geology of the Islands and trace the Viking and whaling history back through the ages. Be sure to view the famous medieval pew-ends, taken from St Olav’s Church in Kirkjubøur, which are on display here.
