Step inside St Francis Xavier Cathedral in the heart of Geraldton — a magnificent and ornate building completed in 1938. Amazingly, it was designed by parish priest-turned-architect Monsignor John Hawes. He eventually designed many churches in the area.
On your journey through town, you will visit the HMAS Sydney Memorial, located on Mt Scott. This memorial highlights Australia's largest naval tragedy and the 645 men who went down with the ship in 1941. The wreck was finally found in 2008. The memorial on Mt Scott includes a dome roof made from 645 metallic seagulls, representing those that were lost.
