Hobart is the gateway to beautiful Bruny Island, and today is your chance to explore it. Throughout the day you'll see incredible scenery.
Start today’s adventure by transferring to Kettering, where you’ll board a vehicle ferry and take a scenic 15-minute crossing to Bruny Island. This ride treats you to panoramic views of the Tasmanian coastline and builds anticipation of the island exploration that’s to come.
Your first stop is the Neck Lookout on Bruny Island, where you’ll see picturesque views of the isthmus, which connects the northern and southern parts of the island. Make your way up the timber stairs to see stunning 360-degree views of the sea and sand, with a stroll along the deserted white-sand beach with local sightseeing afterward. This area is also home to elusive fairy penguins that sleep in the sand dunes.
Next, delight your taste buds at the brand-new Bruny Island Cruises Seafood Restaurant. This is a rare chance to savor the clean briny flavor of oysters straight from the sea. Start with a taste of freshly shucked local oysters, followed by the freshest local premium fish served with a crisp salad and chips alongside a glass of local wine, artisan beer or cider. Lunch ends a nip of Tasmanian whisky or gin.
You’ll also have time to shop for local arts, crafts, giftware or perhaps a bottle of the local whisky or gin at the visitor center.
The afternoon rounds out at an enjoyable pace. Those wanting a light walk on the beach may stroll the shores at Adventure Bay or those feeling a little more energetic can wander the slightly longer trail, one of Tasmania’s great Short Walks to Grassy Point with views of the famous fluted Cape.
