With more than 115 miles of coastline and many small islands, Paterson Inlet is one of the most beautiful natural harbors in New Zealand.
From the Ulva Island wharf, you'll board a chartered 75-foot high-speed catamaran and commence your cruise towards Paterson Inlet. Native forest extends down to the shoreline in many places. The landscape is a mix of rugged rock and sandy beaches. Its pristine condition is evident in the clarity of the water, where it is possible to see the bottom of the harbor 30 feet below.
In an area renowned for its marine life, more than 200 species of red and brown seaweed thrive in these waters.
At Price's Inlet, the captain points out the ruins of a Norwegian whaling-boat repair base.
Other highlights include scenic cruising along Kidney Fern Arm and Kaipipi Bay.
Coffee, tea and cookies are served during the cruise.
Please note: It is essential that you wear warm, layered clothing in order to fully enjoy and participate in this excursion. Outer layer should be waterproof and windproof. Bring gloves, a warm hat and a scarf. Antarctic winds and sudden showers can make for cool temperatures on Stewart Island, regardless of the season. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
