Transfer to the Paihia helipad for a visually stunning helicopter flight that takes you up to the Cape Reinga region -- the very top of New Zealand.
Watch for the harbors and beaches of Northland -- Whangaroa Harbour, Rangaunu Harbour, Coopers Beach, Doubtless Bay and famous Ninety-Mile Beach. As you can tell from its name, this beach is exactly 55 miles long.
Heading inland, you'll fly north and land at a private airfield only 12 miles from the Cape Reinga Lighthouse.
On the ground, a comfortable air-conditioned van (or similar) meets the aircraft. You'll have three hours of scenic touring. A panoramic drive brings you to the Cape Reinga Lighthouse and the turbulent waters where the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean meet. See Tapotupotu Bay and the giant sand dunes of Te Paki Stream. Sleds are available for anyone wishing to slide down the dunes.
A light snack is served at Tapotupotu Bay.
Back at the airfield, you'll climb into the helicopter and begin the next leg of your flight. Remote scenery, the white silica sands of Parengarenga Harbour and Great Exhibition Bay accompany you down the east coast.
Land at Henderson Bay for lunch at the private home of some friendly local hosts.
Continuing down the coast by helicopter, you'll see Houhora Harbour, Karikari Peninsula, Whangaroa Harbour, the Cavalli Islands and the glistening Bay of Islands before landing back at Paihia.
Please note: Minimum age is 18 years. Bring a warm jacket -- it is windy and cool at Cape Reinga. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
