Escape the crowds on a journey up the glacier-carved Rangitata Valley to visit one of the icons of Canterbury high country stations, Mesopotamia, located at the very heart of the Southern Alps.
Travel to the beautiful Peel Forest with a stop for a morning snack. The Peel Forest is home to a stand of ancient podocarp trees, some of which date back more than 1,000 years.
Upon arrival at Mesopotamia Station (farm) you will be welcomed by the station team and enjoy a relaxed light morning/afternoon tea, surrounded by sweeping alpine landscapes.
Continue to the picturesque township of Geraldine for an engaging sheep-shearing demonstration, complemented by a beverage, before observing skilled sheepdogs at work. A seated lunch will then be served at an elegant local venue
After lunch, enjoy some leisure time to explore Geraldine’s boutique stores and artisan offerings, take photos, or simply relax and soak in the charm of the township.
Return to the ship via a short drive, reflecting on the spectacular landscapes and high-country heritage you have experienced.
