Enjoy a visit with a small iwi (tribe) to learn about Maori life and plant a commemorative manuka tree on a plantation.
The leader of the small Maori tribe welcomes you to the beautiful Bay of Plenty coast. Explore the area and enjoy an introduction to Maori traditions. Watch a demonstration of fishing and see how eels are caught in Waitahanui Stream.
Take your spot in the dining area for a presentation on cooking techniques before savoring a delicious sit-down lunch in the wharekai (traditional dining hall). A hangi-style meal, traditionally pressure-cooked underground, includes meats, vegetables, and other local delicacies.
Take time to engage with members of the iwi to learn more about their customs before coming together to plant a manuka tree. Your legacy will leave a lasting impact, providing a sustainable environment for honeybees to produce manuka honey for generations to come.
Please note: Tour sequence may vary. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Wear comfortable walking shoes. The lunch is not suitable for vegetarians or vegans as the meat and vegetables are cooked together. Menu substitutions are not available.
