Departing the pier, begin your day with a brief panoramic drive through the city of Townsville. Pause for photos at Castle Hill and view colonial-style buildings on your way out into the countryside.
Your arrival at Billabong Sanctuary marks the true beginning of the fun -- this 27-acre reserve of natural Queensland tropical bush is home to a wide variety of native mammals, birds and reptiles. A park ranger takes you on a guided tour and introduces you to the many native animals living in the park. If you're feeling particularly brave, you can handle a snake or crocodile.
Enjoy free time to stroll at your own pace and mingle with the macropods (that's kangaroos and wallabies to most of us). Take part in a handling or feeding show or simply relax by the pool before re-joining the coach for the return transfer to the ship.
Please note: Terrain includes uneven surfaces, gravel and dirt. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Some areas may not offer wheelchair access. Tour does not operate on holidays. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
