This half-day safari offers a special view of the South Coast, where a seal colony is situated.
Travel by modern 4x4 Mercedes minivan, as much of the driving is over unpaved roads and along the rocky beach. You'll traverse a large coastal ranch or station, where wild goats, horses and cattle will be seen.
You will also explore Wellington's seismic fault line en route to the coast and take in spectacular views of the city and, weather permitting, the South Island, some 30 miles away.
The impressive coastline and the seals are the main attraction. Tongue Point is home to the New Zealand fur seal and the famous Leaning Lighthouse. Staying at a safe distance, watch the seals as they bask on the rocks and jump into the water in search of food.
Tea or coffee is served from the vehicle as you commune with the seals before you journey around the rocky bays and black-sand beaches back to Wellington.
Please note:
Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair. The vehicles are Modern 4x4 van's but the ride will be bumpy; guests who are pregnant and those with a back or neck condition are not allowed to participate. Minimum age is 2 years.
