Set out on a three-hour walking tour highlighting Baie-Comeau's heritage area, boutiques, art galleries, landmarks and, of course, its beautiful natural setting.
You'll start at Place La Salle in Baie-Comeau's Old Town. This quaint commercial street, full of historical sites, bustles with specialty food shops, souvenir stores, art galleries, fine restaurants and nightclubs.
Two churches are on the itinerary. St-Amélie's Church features pink granite quarried from Québec's North Shore. You will admire its square feet of fresco paintings, the 30 stained-glass windows representing characters from the Bible, and the magnificent Casavant organ. Later in the tour, there's a stop at St Andrew's Anglican Church, built in 1937 and the first church in the Baie-Comeau area. In Tudor style, it has imposing oak trim and lovely stained-glass windows. The main window depicts local forest animals.
From Champlain Beach, admire the magnificent scenery and step inside the famous Manoir Baie-Comeau Hotel for a slice of cake and a cup of tea. The hotel was built and burned down in 1937. Thankfully, it was rebuilt using stone instead of wood and was tastefully renovated in 2004. The dining room, terrace and gardens command spectacular views of the Saint Lawrence River.
Your walk ends back at Place La Salle. Guests wishing to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so but must make their own way back to the ship.
Please note: Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes.
