The ideal way to relax and enjoy Portland may be with a schooner sail, a scenic drive and a visit to the oldest commissioned lighthouse in the United States.
A panoramic drive through the quaint streets of the Old Port takes you past a graceful blend of architectural styles. In the former warehouse district, numerous brick buildings now house charming restaurants, pubs and galleries.
Perched on the beautiful rocky coastline of Cape Elizabeth is Fort Williams -- former military outpost and the home to the famous Portland Head Light. This is Maine's oldest lighthouse.
Welcome aboard an authentic wooden schooner -- the perfect platform from which to view Casco Bay. The sails are hoisted and you'll follow Maine's rugged coastline past lighthouses, seals, and seabirds aboard one of the classic schooners, Bagheera, Timberwind or Wendameen. Help the crew, take command at the ship's wheel, or simply relax under full sail. Portland's bustling waterfront, secluded islands, historic forts and lighthouses make for some wonderful photo ops.
Please note: The schooner is not wheelchair accessible. The incline of the schooner's ramp varies with the tide and can be quite steep. Participants must be able to negotiate five steps to embark/disembark the schooner. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
