Prince Edward Island has been famous for oysters since Malpeque oysters were judged as the world's best oysters at the Paris World’s Fair in 1900.
Today, Malpeque’s are marketed under a variety of brand names, one of the most popular being Raspberry Points. Join oyster grower James Power as he explains how oyster production has shifted from traditional hand harvesting using long wooden tongs to scoop oysters from the bottom, to the more efficient floating cage method. The great thing is, no matter how they are harvested they all taste great! James will show you how to safely shuck oysters and you'll get to sample three different brands of oysters so you can taste how the "merroir" of the bay or river in which they grew establishes the taste and texture much the way terroir impacts wines. There will be lots of oysters to eat and a special surprise gift to take home as a memory of your Island oystering experience.
